Nairobi National Park/Animal Orphanage - 4Hrs

Nairobi National Park is Kenya's oldest animal sanctuary, a glorious stretch of savannah set against the dramatic skyline of Nairobi, the cosmopolitan capital city of Kenya. The only city in the world which neighbours a national game protection area. The Park borders the traditional South Kapiti plains and kitengela migration corridor and attracts a range of exciting game. It harbours different species of animals which include, Lions, Cheetahs, Buffaloes, Zebras, Giraffes among others.

Take a drive towards the Ngong Hills at the foot of Masai Land and visit the Karen Blixen Museum where Karen spent most of her life. Continue with the Safari and visit the Giraffe Centre where you will have a chance of seeing and feeding the famous Rothschild Giraffe, followed by afternoon tea. This museum was originally the home of Karen Blixen, who came to Kenya from Denmark in the early part of this century; the present museum site is at the heart of the larger coffee plantation run by Blixen between 1914 and 1931.

The house and surrounding land was donated by the Danish government to Kenya at independence; the house was restored by the Danish government and was used during the filming of Out of Africa, which immortalised Karen Blixen's book by the same name. The Museum was opened to the public in 1986. Much of the original furniture is on display in the house, and combined with the beautifully landscaped gardens and encompassing view of the Ngong Hills, the Museum has continued to be very popular destination for international and local visitors .The original kitchen has been restored and is now open for viewing. A Dove Stove similar to the one us ed by Blixen is on display, as are other period kitchen utensils. Reconstruction of the coffee factory as an additional attraction is underway and other early farm machinery is also on display, depicting the early settler life in Kenya .

Set in 15 acres of indigenous forest the Langata Giraffe Centre is located about 20km out of the city centre. The centre is for Endangered  Wildlife and ithouses a number of Rothschild's giraffes. There is info rmation about them on display and it is designed to be interesting to children. You can watch and feed them from a raised wooden structure. The centre is also an excellent spot for bird watching. This was in a bid to save the endangered Rothschild Giraffe, which had lost its natural habitat in Western Kenya to agriculture. Indigenous Forest The indigenous forest is a remnant of the natural forest that once surrounded Nairobi. It comprises of over 100 acres of dry upland forest that is part of the larger ecosystem that originally comprised of the current Ngong Forest and Ololua Forest hence all these have similar vegetation species.

This is a private sanctuary and has a splendid range of birds. You must book in advance and parties are accompanied by an ornithologist with a well trained eye. Binoculars will add greatly to the pleasure of a visit. Admission is US$5.

A balloon safari is not technically a safari; but a morning outing. This is a must for adventurers interested in taking a ride over the rolling hills of Mara Game Reserve. The ride takes place shortly after dawn. It offers the best bird's eye view of terrain and wildlife. Towards the end of our safari, we rise to a height of 1,500 feet.

After breakfast departure for Lake Nakuru National Park set deep in the magnificent Rift Valley. This is a renowned ornithological paradise and is the perfect destination for ornithologists, amateur bird watchers and nature lovers.

You will also have a chance to visit the first Rhino Sanctuary in Kenya. Lunch will be held overlooking the lake. Afternoon tea will be served in Lake Naivasha country club on our way back to Nairobi millions of flamingos (both lesser and greater species) transforming the shores pink.
